Did ISIS Use Sony’s PS4 Network For Communication?

Last Friday, 13th November, 2015, terrorist attacked capital of France – Paris, killing more than hundred people and several casualties. Attack took place around seven places throughout the city, which forced President François Hollande to close France’s borders and mobilize the military to defend against unpredicted terrorist attack. Authorities discovered it as a long pre-planned attack with an unexpected means used for communication, PS4 console communication network.

Total of 8 terrorists were killed responsible for attack and investigations led to number of raids near Brussels where the prevalent evidence turn up to include of at least one Sony’s PS4 console.

According to Belgian federal home affairs minister, Jan Jambon, it was hard to monitor sony’s PS4 network which is why ISIS choose it as their means of communication, “PlayStation 4 is even more difficult to keep track of than WhatsApp”, said Jan Jambon.

Sony has its own proprietary operating system with communication and network protocol which make it secure than other operating system publicly available. Likewise sony gives users full control of what to share making each interaction with a game or another player as secure as the technology allows it. If you are a good PS4 user then you know many other means to communicate with another player also you can use specific game to interchange message between players.

In 2013 Edward Snowden leaked documents which revealed that NSA and CIS embedded themselves in games like world of Warcraft to infiltrate terrorist meet-ups in virtual world, which is scary for government officials because with very less investment, terrorists communication are passed through a very secure channel more secure than encrypted calls, email and text with very less chance of being monitored.
